Building Opportunity in New Mexico: Project Jupiter

Project Jupiter has awarded nearly $1 billion in contracts to 30 New Mexico businesses, and I am excited to see what this investment means for local companies, workers, and their families.

Project Jupiter is a data center campus being developed in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, to support the growing demand for computing infrastructure and artificial intelligence. Data centers support much of what we rely on every day, from healthcare systems and online banking to the technology that helps businesses operate. As our reliance on these services grows, so does the need for infrastructure to support them.

Clayco and Kiewit, working together as joint venture partners, recently topped out the first 855,000-square-foot portion of the campus. Reaching this milestone is a tremendous accomplishment for the teams involved, and I am proud of the work they are doing alongside Oracle, STACK Infrastructure, and our local trade partners.

What makes this project particularly interesting to me is the investment being made in New Mexico. Project Jupiter is expected to generate more than $13 billion in long-term economic impact, support 7,000 construction jobs, and create more than 3,100 ongoing project-supported roles. These are significant opportunities for the people and businesses in Doña Ana County.

I also know that data centers raise important questions about energy and water use. Project Jupiter is being developed with those concerns in mind. Its closed-loop cooling systems will reuse water rather than continually consuming it, and the project will use non-potable water instead of drawing on public drinking-water supplies for cooling and fuel-cell operations.

On-site fuel cells will provide power through a dedicated microgrid, reducing reliance on the local electric grid and helping protect residents from additional electricity infrastructure costs. Oracle is also committing $50 million to improvements to local water systems and $6.9 million to workforce development and community initiatives.

One of the things I have always loved about construction is how a project can have an impact well beyond the jobsite. Local businesses are gaining experience, workers are developing skills, and investments are being made in infrastructure that communities depend on.

Projects of this magnitude take extraordinary collaboration, and I have enormous respect for our partners at Kiewit, Oracle, STACK Infrastructure, and the many skilled tradespeople making this possible.

We are building infrastructure that will support the next generation of technology, but I am equally interested in what this project will mean for New Mexico over the long term.

I am proud of what our teams and partners are accomplishing together. To me, Building to Make Life Better means delivering important infrastructure while creating opportunities and making a positive difference for the communities where we work.
