Cold storage is no-frills, but it’s one of the trickiest and most important things we build, and we love the challenge. Clayco, alongside our design partners at Lamar Johnson Collaborative, is proud to be delivering a 294,000-square-foot cold storage facility in Joliet for Saxum Development. This one’s going to be a game-changer.
It’ll be home to Arcadia Cold, a company that knows how to handle the cold. They specialize in third-party storage, distribution, and logistics. This facility will include around 38,000 pallet positions and feature a Transcritical CO₂ refrigeration system—one of the most efficient and sustainable systems out there. It’s all wrapped in insulated metal panels to keep things cold, tight, and running smoothly.
Why does it matter? Because cold storage is the backbone of critical supply chains. It keeps food fresh, vaccines safe, and products moving. This facility will help fast-moving consumer goods programs stay on track and on time.
We broke ground in Q4 of 2024, and we’re on pace to wrap things up in early 2026. And on top of all that, it’ll bring 75 to 100 new jobs to the Joliet area. This project is a great example of how Clayco brings our integrated model to life—solving tough problems, building smart, and doing work that matters.
