Building What’s Next at O’Hare

At Clayco, building means more than construction. It’s about people, ideas, and innovation coming together to create places that matter. Concourse D at Chicago O’Hare International Airport is one of those places.

A New Era for Chicago’s Front Door

This week we broke ground on Concourse D, the first major expansion at O’Hare in decades. Alongside SOM, Ross Barney Architects, JGMA, Arup, and our partners at AECOM Hunt, we are helping deliver a project that will change how millions of people experience one of the world’s busiest airports.

Design with Purpose

The new concourse takes its inspiration from Chicago and the Midwest:

  • Orchard-like columns that branch outward to support a curved roof
  • A skylit oculus that fills the space with daylight
  • Flowing lines shaped by Midwestern rivers
  • Expansive glass walls that open the building to the city and sky

Inside, travelers will find clear circulation, natural finishes, inviting retail, and abundant light. It is designed to be simple, intuitive, and memorable.

Building Smarter, Together

Concourse D is not only about adding more gates. It is about creating better connections. The concourse will link directly to the future Concourse E and Studio Gang’s Global Terminal, becoming the hub of the expanded airport.

For Clayco, this is where our craft shines. By aligning design, engineering, and construction from the start, we build smarter. We sequence with precision, cut embodied carbon, and keep the passenger experience at the center of every decision. That is how we will deliver Concourse D on time in 2028.

What It Means for Chicago

Airports are more than infrastructure. They are symbols of a city. O’Hare has always been Chicago’s global gateway, and Concourse D will make that welcome even stronger.

I am proud of our role in this project, proud of our partners, and proud of our team.

This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity. And for Clayco, it is another step in building what’s next.
