Preserving Our Shared Legacy: Clayco Supports the DuSable Black History Museum

Clayco is honored to sponsor the Margaret T. Burroughs Gallery at the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center

Educator and art historian Dr. Margaret Burroughs founded the museum in 1961 alongside other leading Chicago citizens, bringing what is now the nation’s oldest independent African American museum to life! This crucial piece of American history is especially important as it is dedicated to the collection, documentation, preservation, and study of the history and culture of Africans and African Americans.

The DuSable Museum was named in honor of Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable, the Haitian-born founder of Chicago. It has welcomed millions of visitors to its home in historic Washington Park with innovative exhibits and powerful educational programs. At Clayco, we believe that true understanding and unity start with recognizing and respecting our shared history.

This gallery not only tells the story of the past but also inspires both older and younger generations to reflect, learn, and take action. We at Clayco aim to contribute to a more inclusive society where diverse stories are celebrated, and understanding is the foundation of our collective progress.

I strongly encourage anyone living in or passing through Chicago to visit this incredible space that features over 15,000 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, print works, and historical memorabilia. The DuSable Museum plays a vital role in bridging divides and facilitating a more equitable future for all.

I am excited to see the lasting impact this gallery will have on the community and beyond!
