Richard T. Ubben Basketball Complex Expansion

It’s time to get our heads in the game and inspire the next generation of athletes!

Clayco, Turner, and HNTB collaborated to revamp the Richard T. Ubben Basketball Complex at the University of Illinois. Our companies create structures that connect people with inviting aesthetics and enhanced functionality – something users of this facility will attest to. This project doubled the size of the existing building to 75,000 square feet to provide more space for players to refine their skillsets and drive the athletic program forward.

Our teams expanded the basketball practice courts to include two additional half-court areas and constructed a South addition with new offices for coaches, meeting rooms, and a recruiting lounge. A North addition features a sports medicine area, hydrotherapy room, and strength training. The developments will also triple the size of locker rooms and player lounges, and come equipped with a multipurpose room that serves as the academic and nutrition center.

The Illinois Champions Campaign spared no expense in this $40 million renovation of the complex. As the training facility originally opened in 1998, these modern improvements will benefit both the men’s and women’s programs far into the future. The complex stands as a reminder that hard work and dedication are the stepping stones to success on and off the court. Now that is a community mission that Clayco is proud to be a part of!
