A Culture of Excellence on Display at Hankook
Last week, I visited Clayco’s Hankook Tire expansion job site in Clarksville, Tennessee, with Anthony Johnson. This is a massive, high-performance job with a really strong team, all pushing forward on a tight timeline. Since breaking ground in December 2023, they’ve made amazing progress. What we saw on this visit wasn’t just world-class construction, it was a great example of the Clayco way - what happens when the right culture meets a shared goal.
We arrived on site ahead of a leadership lunch with representatives from Hankook, local government, and our Clayco team. Beforehand, Anthony and I got a detailed walkthrough from the project team, who updated us on their progress and the critical path ahead. This 2.2 million square foot jobs is one of the most complicated in Clayco’s history. It was energizing to see the structure coming together, and more importantly, to see the way our team’s discipline, collaboration, and forward-thinking. Clayco’s own Concrete Strategies is playing a critical role in delivering the quality and speed this project demands.
One thing that stood out was the way this team puts safety first.
At Clayco, safety isn’t a talking point, it’s a mindset. It’s something we build into every step of the process. When you protect your people, everything else follows. This team is doing that right.
We spoke directly to our team in the field. We answered their questions, shared our vision, and discussed this project’s impact. Hankook is an incredible partner to the community they are in and this facility is a key piece of their global strategy. We’ve built our company culture around the Golden Rule, treating others the way we want to be treated, and that was on full display.
Later that day, we joined Hankook’s new Co-CEOs, Jong Seon Ahn and Sang Hoon Lee, along with Hankook President Robert Williams, and other local leaders, to align on the final project phase.
Hankook’s investment represents the future of mobility, and I’m proud Clayco is trusted to help build it—safely, responsibly, and with our values leading the way.
