Some Key Ideas That Have Stood the Test of Time
A reflection on leadership, company culture, and the principles that have guided Clayco’s growth, from hiring the right people to building with purpose beyond the walls.

Real people make each other better. That is what Clayco culture is all about.
Maddi Taddi is a rising star at Clayco. When he was 21, he took on a trek in the Himalayas that was known as “The Toughest Trek in India.” Temperatures dropped below minus 20 degrees, the winds were brutal, and every step tested him mentally and physically. Maddi said he thought about quitting 500 times, and that was a low-ball estimate. But kept going. That tells you a lot about who Maddi is!
I have known Emma Day since she was a toddler. She was a good two-year-old, and I used to tell her Dino the Dragon stories. Then I watched her grow up in Colorado, on the ranch where we all live, working cattle, ditches, and every chore you can imagine. I could not be prouder of the smart, highly educated engineer and strong woman she has become and the leadership she is bringing to Clayco.
James Buebendorf comes to us as a student, and this is his first internship. I have known his father since 2007, when we both worked on the Obama campaign. I was with the “Yes We Can” team, and Jim was keeping everyone safe as head of the Secret Service detail. It is exciting to see his son jump in and learn what Clayco culture looks like from the inside.
This is how we build. Different stories. Different paths. Same purpose.
Building to make life better.
