Building to make life better is part of Clayco’s DNA.

When I started Clayco in 1984, I was 25 years old and had two employees. We had more belief than resources, but I knew the kind of company I wanted to build.

From the beginning, I wanted to hire the best and brightest. But I have always had a pretty tight definition of what that means. Being smart or talented isn’t enough. I want people who care about other people. People who give back. People who understand that success creates an obligation to leave things better than you found them.

More than 40 years later, that idea is still at the center of Clayco.

We are building some of the most complex and critical projects in the country. Data centers and the digital infrastructure powering our world are a huge part of our business. So are advanced manufacturing facilities, research centers, hospitals, and places where people are working on some of the biggest challenges of our time.

The scale has changed dramatically. Our responsibility has grown with it.

And that responsibility does not stop at the fence around a jobsite.

As Clayco has traveled across the country, we have worked hard to leave something positive in our wake. Jobs. Training programs. Opportunities for young people. Baseball fields. Sponsorships. Support for local organizations. And maybe most important, real and tangible relationships with our neighbors.

I believe strongly that you cannot just show up in a community, build a billion-dollar project, and leave. You have to be a partner. You have to listen. You have to understand what matters to the people who were there before you arrived and who will still be there long after the cranes come down.

That is part of building too.

Safety is another part of it. Everyone who comes to work on a Clayco project should go home safe every day. No exceptions. That takes investment and accountability, but mostly it takes people who genuinely care about each other.

Clayco is a very different company than it was in 1984. It should be. If you are not constantly innovating and changing, you are going to get left behind.

But the foundation has not changed.

Hire great people. Treat people right. Take care of each other. Be a great neighbor. Solve hard problems. Give back. Leave something better behind.

Building to make life better is where we started, even before we had the words for it.
