An aerial view of Clayco’s ongoing construction at O’Hare Airport is a great way to check out the progress of our developments! Our Virtual Design and Construction Drone Operations team navigated complex schedules, safety protocols, and authorizations from one of the busiest American airports to record essential data that supports our crews on the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration has signed off on a multibillion-dollar terminal modernization and expansion plan to develop one of the most extensive public works programs in the city's history. The new Global Terminal and Global Concourse is a key project to unlock O’Hare’s potential as a leader in aviation. This will boost Chicago’s success as a contemporary and international city thanks to the support of U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) Commissioner Jamie Rhee.
Studio ORD’s design for the 2.2 million square foot project features the new concourse and surrounding infrastructure, celebrates the city’s incredible history, and extends its legacy into the future. The latest strategy is that after two new remote satellite terminals open in 2027 and 2028, full-scale work will begin on the demolition and reconstruction of Terminal 2 to convert it into a domestic and international terminal in 2026. The plan will establish a vibrant new neighborhood in the heart of the airport’s campus.
Clayco is also constructing a six-story parking garage for expanded Terminal 5. This development will more than double the amount of available parking as the terminal transitions into a state-of-the-art facility that will serve domestic and international passengers. The project is set to be completed in 2024 and led by joint venture AECOM Hunt Clayco BOWA as Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) and supported by 60 participating contractors, including 14 MBE and 14 WBE firms.
Our team and subsidiary Concrete Strategies recently finished constructing the PreFlight parking structure in Schiller Park to combat the traffic. The 2,150-vehicle space has a four-story capacity and offers excellent amenities, including a reception area with self-service kiosks to print boarding passes to cut down on logistical time for the hurried traveler.
Clayco cares about the communities where we operate as they evolve and attract new people and prospects. These are all great projects to transform Chicago and help it remain a competitor on the global stage.
