American Manufacturing Is Back, and Rivian Is Building at Scale

This is what long-term commitment looks like.

Real progress happens when the vision is clear, leadership is strong, and teams are committed to building something that lasts. That is what we are seeing today at Rivian’s manufacturing campus in Social Circle, Georgia.

And the timing is interesting. While Engineering News-Record is reporting on the extraordinary construction effort underway in Georgia, The New York Times is taking a close look at Rivian’s new R2, a smaller and more accessible SUV designed to bring the Rivian experience to a much broader market.

Those are two sides of the same story.

Great products need the infrastructure, manufacturing capacity, and people to deliver them at scale. That is what our teams are helping build in Georgia.

CJ Adventures, Clayco ’s joint venture with JE Dunn Construction, is building the 16-million-square-foot manufacturing plant. Vertical construction began in May, and by August, teams were placing foundations for two stamping presses, one of the most technically demanding scopes on the project. Primary factory buildings are expected to be enclosed in 2027.

Across the 1,800-acre campus, CJ Adventures and LJC are also delivering the civil scopes and paint shop through a design-build approach.

The size of this project gets attention, but the complexity of delivering it is what stands out to me.

Advanced manufacturing requires an extraordinary level of coordination. The buildings, infrastructure, equipment, technology, and manufacturing processes all have to work together. At this scale, success depends on bringing the right expertise to the table early and keeping everyone aligned as the work moves forward.

That is something we have believed in at Clayco for a long time. Integration matters. Partnership matters. And on projects this complex, having teams that can anticipate challenges and solve them together matters enormously.

When we broke ground with Rivian last year, we talked about the impact this project would have on Georgia, American manufacturing, and the thousands of people who will build and ultimately work here. Today, we are seeing that commitment take shape.

There is a lot of work ahead, and it takes an incredible team. Clayco, CJ Adventures, LJC, and our partners at JE Dunn are working alongside Rivian to turn a very ambitious vision into reality.
